CENTRAL defender Aiden Read and veteran striker Steve Cawley were the big winners at Welwyn Garden City FC’s annual presentation function.
Read, signed from Spartan South Midlands Leaguers Cockfosters two seasons, picked up four awards on the Citizens’ big night, while vastly experienced forward Cawley collected three.
Read’s much improved season at the heart of the Citizens’ defence saw him awarded the Committee, Supporters, Young Player and Social Media top prizes, as he walked away with four awards.
Cawley, signed from Potters Bar last summer, weighed in with 20 goals to the WGC campaign, that saw them finish eighth in the Southern League Div 1 Central table.
That naturally saw him collect the Top Goalscorers’ award, as well as the Players’ Player crown, where he was an overwhelming winner and he was also top choice for the Management’s Player of the Year accolade.
Seven of the WGC squad all received commerative plaques for completing 50 appearances in WGC colours. They were Eddie Corbit, Callum Taylor, Lewis Jones, Panny Boxer, skipper Layne Eadie, Lewis Taaffe and major winner Aiden Read.
Assistant manager Ronnie Jones also received a similar award.
Wing-back Adam Pollock picked up the season’s final Man of the Match award, at the ceremony.
