WELWYN GC closed last season with an emphatic 4-2 away win over Enfield FC at Hertford on the Southern League’s final day, at the end of April.
Coincidentally, the Citizens will open the new 2026-27 season against the same opponents, as WGC have been drawn away to Enfield FC in the FA Cup’s extra preliminary round.
The one certain difference will be the venue. Enfield ended a two year deal to play at Hertford after that final game and have entered in a 10 year arrangement with Potters Bar Town, where the August 8th FA Cup tie will be played – the opening fixture of the new campaign.
Victory for Gavin Kelsey’s new look side that has 13 new players at the moment, would see the Citizens away again two weekends later – on August 22nd - when they would travel to nomadic Hashtag United, newly relegated to step 4 in the Isthmian League North division.
Hastag currently play their home fixtures at Barkingside FC in the London Borough of Redbridge.
There will also be new opponents from Essex in the FA Trophy, which sees WGC come in at the preliminary stage, with another away tie, this time at newly promoted Buckhurst Hill on August 15th.
Buckhurst Hill, like Hashtag Utd, will be in the Isthmian North, following promotion after winning the Essex Senior League play-offs at the end of the last campaign.
